Can I be allergic to pre-wrap?

Underwrap known as m-wrap from Mueller is a latex-free product. According to sources at Mueller, they've done investigations into skin irritations from taping. What they have learned is that skin irritations occur not from the pre-wrap itself but rather
from either a.) other products like sprays or ointments used while
taping or b.) occlusion of the skin that has not been cleansed can
result in a form of heat rash. This is itchy and often painful.

M-wrap is a polyester polyurethane foam, which is inert.
Preliminary repeated insult patch testing show no hypersensitivity in
humans to the foam. It is a petroleum product, so people can react to
this similar to neoprene, in rare cases.

Rules Regarding Pre-Wrap as Headbands
-According to the National Association of State High School Associations (NFSH) Basketball - by Megan Fenton (copyright Pre-wrap.com)

• A headband is anything that goes around the whole head – not just around the hair (for example a ponytail holder/elastic/scrunchie)
•Pre-wrap is considered a headband, along with elastic strips/bands, or terry cloth sweat bands
• The pre-wrap color must be white, black, beige, or the main color of the jersey
• All team members are required to wear the same colors also – for example one team member is not allowed to wear black if the other is wearing the primary team color, or white or beige
• Headbands must be worn around the forehead or crown of the head
• Headbands must be made of a non-abrasive material – like pre-wrap
• If the athlete is wearing one color of pre-wrap, or other type of headband, their wrist or arm bands must also be the same color
• Items that are not matching or do not follow these rules must be removed before competition

Skaters Use Pre-wrap

I just got a really nice note from Victor over at Capital Ice. Since we're not skaters, he kindly explained how they use our pre-wrap.

"For the ankle area which also needs protection against the hard boots (without the pads, I get blisters), the sleeves do not work very well; after skating hard for an hour, the pads will slip out of the sleeve. So I use the prewrap and the athletic tape instead. And it works very well. I've been using it for a year or so.

First I use the prewrap around my ankle, put the pads on it, then use more
prewrap around it. To hold everything tight, I use the athletic tape."

He also told us how much he likes the story of how our business started and all of the colors that we have.

College Basketball Thinks Pink This Week

More than 800 college basketball teams are participating in the annual Women's Basketball Coaches Association "Think Pink" initiative for breast cancer awareness. Players are wearing pink - pink uniforms, pink pre-wrap, pink headbands, even pink shoelaces. Coaches are wearing pink and fans are asked to wear pink t-shirts. Refs are even using pink whistles!

Why not don some pink this week - whether your team is participating or not. Got a game this weekend? Add some pink and show your spirit. Breast cancer affects 12 percent of women, according to the National Cancer Institute. It's certainly hit home in our family.

Pink Pre-wrap for Breast Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and many girls' teams throughout the country are wearing pink pre-wrap to support this important cause. In Ohio, the volleyball players have Volley for a Cure where each high school in Ohio that plays interscholastic volleyball is challenged to dedicate one home volleyball match to promote breast cancer education, awareness and fundraising. The Soccer Association of Columbia is hosting a “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” for the entire month of October. They just ordered the Athletic Tape for their team’s shoelaces and the Pre-Wrap for their hair. They'll also use the pink pre-wrap as sleeve holders. Our U14 soccer team wore pink at this weekend's Columbus Day Tournament.

In Maryland, the

Quince Orchard Soccer team will wear pink pre-wrap during the month of October to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In Farmingdale, NY - Farmingdale and Old Westbury's women's volleyball teams did a fundraiser and ll of the players wore pink socks during the match to promote breast cancer awareness and the coaches(including the male coaches!) sported pink t-shirts or wore pink pre-wrap. link

Pretty in Pink There’s nothing extraordinary about the Quince Orchard girls soccer team wearing pre-wrap. Most girls soccer players use it to keep those annoying straggling hairs out of their eyes. What is special, however, is that the Cougars are all sporting pink pre-wrap this month. And they’re wearing it to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, helping facilitate knowledge of the disease among their peers.

‘‘We want to create awareness and get through to whoever is at our games,” said senior defender and captain Chelsea Prentice. ‘‘A lot of us wear pre-wrap anyway, but those who don’t are wearing it on their wrists or around their necks. We just want to show we support breast cancer research and that we’re sympathetic to those who are affected by it.”

Adolescent Knee Pain - Osgood Schlatter Disease

Has your adolescent son or daughter been diagnosed with Osgood Schlatter disease? If so, you may be interested in learning more about the cause and treatment of this common orthopedic problem.

Osgood Schlatter disease was first discovered around the turn of the century by Paget and was later described by two physicians, Osgood and Schlatter, who gave it its name. The disease occurs when the growth of the femur (large bone in the thigh) outpaces the growth of the surrounding supporting tissues. This results in excessive stress being placed on the patella tendon which connects to the tibial tuberosity, located just below the knee cap. The associated stress may set up an inflammatory process, resulting in a partial avulsion fracture. As new bone is laid down to repair the fracture, a bony lump may form at the tibial tuberosity. This bony lump formed is often red and painful to the touch.

Osgood Schlatter disease is a well described cause of knee pain in adolescent girls and boys. In fact, it’s one of the most common causes of knee pain in adolescents who actively participate in sports. It’s most often seen in girls between the ages of 10 and 11 and in males between the ages of 13 and 14. The affected adolescent frequently presents to his or her doctor with tenderness and swelling just below the knee along with pain when jumping, squatting, or going up and down stairs.This disease, although usually benign and self limited, is of particular concern to the adolescent and his family since it may limit the ability of the child to play his chosen sport. In fact, the average adolescent suffering from Osgood Schlatter disease loses up to 18 months sports play time due to pain from this condition.

It may surprise you to learn that up to 20% of athletic adolescents may be affected with Osgood –Schlatter disease. We know that Osgood Schlatter is more common in males, although it can occur in females. It’s most commonly seen during periods of rapid skeletal growth in adolescents who are active in sports, particularly sports involving running and jumping. The repeated process of running and jumping may contribute to the development of the disease by placing excessive strain on the patella tendon that attaches to the tibial tuberosity.

The diagnosis is usually made clinically by a doctor based on the child’s symptoms. An x-ray may be taken to look for evidence of an enlarged tibial tuberosity or the presence of bony fragments from the tibial tuberosity. An x-ray may also be used to distinguish this condition from several other knee related problems which give similar symptoms.

This condition is usually benign and will resolve on its own when the adolescent completes his growth spurt, which usually takes less than a year. Until then, activity levels are based primarily on the severity of symptoms which should be determined with the help of a doctor. Usually the adolescent is instructed to forgo sporting activities that require deep knee bending for at least 3 months. Anti-inflammatory medications are prescribed if the adolescent is able to tolerate them to reduce the pain and inflammation associated with the disease. Application of ice for 15 minutes every 3 hours also helps to reduce the pain and inflammation. Once the acute symptoms have subsided, the doctor may suggest exercises for stretching the quadriceps to reduce the tension on the affected tibial tubercle. In rare cases, surgery may be necessary for cases unresponsive to conventional therapy .Occasionally, an orthopedic brace may be needed if symptoms are severe.

Went to a middle school track meet. Our team is blue and gold, so I brought a couple of rolls of gold on a very windy day. The girls were thrilled and grabbed pieces to make headbands and bows. The guys could resist. They wore headbands like warriors and couldn't resist playing with the prewrap. The other team had the same color uniform, but we could easily pick out our team by the pre-wrap!

Yeah pre wrap is awesome. I somehow got voted in as the "prewrap headband supplier and maker on my travel team." Our team colors are green and gold so if we wear gold jersey, green shorts, gold socks-I carry my green prewrap. and if we wear all green- I carry my gold prewrap. Most of the girls on my team have no idea how much prewrap to tear off and how to tie it so I have to do it for them. We just toss the prewrap around in our pregame circle but at least we all match. If you’re tired of trying find ways to keep your hair out of your eyes, take a tip from college athletes. Use pre-wrap! Pre-what? Yes, pre-wrap. Also called underwrap, pre-wrap is designed to go underneath athletic tape to keep tape from sticking to your skin. Some athlete must have forgotten a headband and grabbed a roll in desperation! Now hugely popular with teenage athletes, girls have found a fun way to keep their hair out of their face! The foamy material sticks to itself and has enough grip to stay on your head but doesn’t stick to your hair. Regular headbands slip off easily. Who wants to fuss with hair during a game or practice?

Pre-wrap comes in eleven colors: black, blue, green, maroon, natural, orange, hot pink, light pink, purple, red and yellow. Each latex-free roll is 2 3/4 inches by 30 yards. You can get a lot of headbands out of one roll! Although many sports leagues prohibit the use of hair accessories, pre-wrap is permitted. While many girls coordinate their pre-wrap with their team colors, lots just use it to go with whatever outfit they are wearing that day. It’s a great way to show school or team spirit!

Stinky Shinguards

This is actually a user-name on the Big Soccer forums and I just cracked up when I read it. So, for all of you soccer moms and dads, I have a tip that will spare you when cracking the windows in the car just won't do! Dryer sheets. Bounce, Gain, generic...it doesn't matter. Stuff them in cleats. In shin guards. In sneakers. I also keep a container of baby wipes for quick clean-ups.

Febreze works great in the washer, but can't say the same about the spray stuff. Others swear by white vinegar. This Hockey Dad Blog even has a recipe for an "all-natural" approach to deodorizing gear.

Here's another tip: put your shin guards in zip lock bag and put them in the freezer. The cold will kill the odor causing bacteria. Hmmm...wonder if I have room for three pairs of sneakers and two pairs of cleats in my freezer.

United Soccer Leagues W-League - new exhibition club in Hamden, CT

HAMDEN, CT – The rising game of women’s soccer in the United States will pick up another blossom in 2007 as the Connecticut Football Club based out of Hamden, Connecticut joins United Soccer Leagues W-League as an exhibition club. Baring any unforeseen complications, the club will join either the North or Northeastern division of the W-League’s Eastern Conference officially in 2008. The club, equipped with deep roots in three rich youth soccer areas of Connecticut, will position their 2008 W-League side atop their youth base and complete a club pyramid concurrent of the USL model.

“It was an easy decision to bring the Connecticut Football Club into the W-League,” said W-League Director Kristin Lettiere. “CFC’s General Manager Steve Coxon came to us with a list of goals for their club that coincided with several USL initiatives. They have a strong youth base well established in New England. I have no doubt this club will generate competitive sides very early in their history.”

Connecticut Football Club is already the biggest female club in the state, drawing players out of Hartford, New Haven, and Fairfield Counties, beginning at the U9 level and working up the ladder.

“Our goal for the future is to put as many CFC players onto our W-League roster as possible,” said Coxon. “We want to give our former players a place to come back to. We have girls starting their freshman seasons at Norte Dame, Indiana, UConn, Clemson, and Villanova who will make us competitive right away. Kelly Shimmin, the 2006 W-League scoring Champion, will likely be our first signing. She has been a staple of our club and Central Connecticut State University in the past. Her goal scoring and technical ability make us instantly competitive.”

The process of positioning an amateur franchise above an established youth base is a proven and mutually beneficial way to create a premier club. Coxon (Quinnipiac University), Sean Driscoll (Manhattan College), Matt Micros (Post University), Todd Plourde (Yale University), and Victor Rosario believe they have both the on-field talent and coaching proficiency to create a top tier W-League side in New England.

“I believe it is very attractive for a nine year old player to look at an organization and see somewhere they can play when they are 18,” added Coxon. “Watching the game at its highest level growing up with our club will also add to the technical ability of our players.”

“After playing in the USL First Division for eight seasons, it was a very natural fit for me to choose United Soccer Leagues W-League as the place for my club’s top level side to compete,” added Coxon. “USL has always been run very professionally. That was the type of organization I was looking to establish.”

I'm 5' 6"! I'm 5' 6"! I'm 5' 6"! One more inch on the charts. The refrigerator looks smaller, LOL. This year I was the shortest on my volleyball team. I'm not the shrimp anymore! Hey, Coach! I'm 5' 6"!!!

I still got elbowed in the head last night and flattened like a pancake from behind in my soccer game. Man, that girl was tall!

Healthy Snacks for the Athlete

Finding something that's quick, easy, AND healthy is a challenge for most moms. What do I feed them in between tournament games? What can I send in her backpack so she has a healthy snack after school before a volleyball match? My girls aren't big sandwich eaters, hate granola bars, and detest every power and energy bar they've tried. Recently, a health coach suggested Physique Cookies. Yes, I actually went to a soccer tournament today without my pre-wrap. Not a single roll. Usually our trunk is full of pre-wrap, but today...not a roll...not a piece...not even in the bottom of my soccer bag.

So, today I was a pre-wrap beggar. I can't play without it. One of my teammates told me I have pre-wrap obsessive-compulsive disorder. LOL. I guess I am in the right business. At least everyone else seemed to remember theirs!

We're used to getting phone calls from moms, dads, and coaches, but this week has been fun because your grandmas are calling us! The phone has been ringing off the hook and one grandmother confessed that her twin granddaughters convinced her to try pre-wrap when she "attends to her face" and now she doesn't use anything else. Do you set up a fundraising table at your games? We have a table where we sell water, Gatorade, t-shirts, mood pencils, and now pre-wrap. Pre-wrap is an easy sell at volleyball and basketball games. It's inexpensive, colorful, and fun. Our visiting teams love it and it's a great way to earn some money for your teams.

This month is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Lots of teams are ordering pink pre-wrap and wearing it to support this awesome cause.

This year my daughter decided to give volleyball a try. It's our first fall season without soccer and I was wondering whether I'd miss it. I miss watching her run, that's for sure. I don't miss sitting out in the cold rain. Nope, I've traded that for a nice hard seat in the bleachers! The girls head to the high school for six in the morning! I've never seen such a group of dedicated girls. My dd doesn't want to miss a single minute of being at practice. Huh? This is my kid? I've got new rules to learn. I still have to figure out what "side out" means. Any one want to fill me in?

Chances are if you've been to a tournament, you have done the pre-game ritual of creating a unifying hairstyle for your team! Whether you all gather in someone's hotel room and french-braid each other's hair or bring coordinating ribbons or pre-wrap to wear, you know what I mean.

Some of the best bonding can happen at these out-of-state tournaments. A few tips - start early! French-braiding takes time and often only a few girls and moms are really good at it. Don't forget to use suntan lotion! If you aren't used to wearing braids, your scalp can get burned quickly. We like the spray-on kind best for this.
Take pictures! There's nothing like having pictures of your team the field! With digital cameras, you have no excuse. It's great for those end of the year slideshows.

Went to my dd's soccer game. (It's a high school summer league) The coach is really casual and gave the girls this message: "Don't worry about winning. Have fun. Don't get hurt." The sentiments are nice, although interesting to watch as the opposing team's coach yelled non-stop throughout the game. He wasn't mean or offensive. He had a comment for everything and everyone. My daughter is new to this soccer team. It's a great way for the girls to get to know each other in the off-season, plus keep in shape during the summer.

I guess I am a clueless mother, because I had never heard of pre-wrap when my daugher first asked for it. I searched all over the mall, the drugstores, the Walmarts of the world and could not find this perfect headband. "It's the only thing that works," she'd whine. "I need it!" Need? A silly headband? What about the fifty in her drawer?

Since my kid didn't even care what her hair looked like, I was intrigued by this mother-of-all inventions. I finally found it on eBay and bought 8 rolls. "That's it!" she shreiked when it came through the door. What is pre-wrap? Did other mothers go through this, too?

Now I see it everywhere. Soccer girls, volleyball girls, field hockey girls...even the Tennessee Lady Vols softball team have pre-wrap in their hair. You know why? Simply stated, it works. It doesn't slip off your head. It keeps your hair out of your eyes. It's cheap. It's fun. It's colorful.

Watch a girl take a roll out. Within seconds, everyone else is grabbing pieces of the prewrap. Even girls that don't know what it is can't resist. If you use it you know - if you don't then you don't know what you're missing!

Pre-wrap your hair! It works.

Another Heartbreaking Lightning Strike

July 24, 2006 -- Two New Jersey teens were killed and two others injured when a lightning bolt struck them on a Montvale field during a four-man soccer game, officials said yesterday.

The two injured teens were saved likely because they ran for cover when the thunderstorm struck Saturday evening. Their tragic friends had only walked.

Police said the fatally struck victims, Lee Weisbrod, 19, of River Vale and Steven Fagan, 18, of Woodcliff Lake, were caught out in the open at about 6 p.m., when a thunderstorm suddenly hit and they walked off the field toward cover.

The survivors, Christopher Frasciello, 19, and Jordan Zubalsky, 18, both of Montvale, sprinted off the field, then looked back to see their friends struck down, cops said.

One of the survivors ran toward the adjacent Montvale Memorial School and called 911 on his cellphone, police said.

Gary Zubalsky, father of Jordan, said the sprint probably saved his son's life.

How many times have we been on the soccer field and prayed for the storm to stay far enough away? If you're a soccer parent, for sure you know the annoying "30-minute" wait after each lightning bolt. Listening to the kids whine, watching the coaches pace, hearing the groans with each new strike. I've heard people complain about the officials "just wanting to go home" and players begging to get back on the field. Half the time, the kids and parents aren't even staying in their cars.

A good rule to follow is the ‘30-30 Rule’ which offers The Best Lightning Safety Guidance For The General Public. When You See Lightning, Count The Time Until You Hear Thunder. If That Is 30 Seconds Or Less, The Thunderstorm Is Close Enough To Be Dangerous – Seek Shelter (if you can’t see the lightning, just hearing the lightning is a good back-up rule). Wait 30 Minutes Or More After The Lightning Flash Before Leaving Shelter.

My heart goes out to the families of these young athletes. We can't always be with our kids at every game or pracice, but when we are there we must do all we can to ensure the safety of ALL. Be smart.

Keep Your Hair Out of Your Eyes!

If you’re tired of trying find ways to keep your daughter’s hair out of her eyes, take a tip from college athletes. Use pre-wrap! Pre-what? Yes, pre-wrap. Also called underwrap, pre-wrap is designed to go underneath athletic tape to keep tape from sticking to your skin. Some athlete must have forgotten a headband and grabbed a roll in desperation! Now hugely popular with teenage athletes, girls have found a fun way to keep their hair out of their face! The foamy material sticks to itself and has enough grip to stay on your head but doesn’t stick to your hair. Regular headbands slip off easily. Who wants to fuss with hair during a game or practice?

Pre-wrap comes in eleven colors: black, blue, green, maroon, natural, orange, hot pink, light pink, purple, red and yellow and sells for $2.00 to $3.00 a roll. You can buy it in most sporting good stores or online. Although many sports leagues prohibit the use of hair accessories, pre-wrap is permitted. While many girls coordinate their pre-wrap with their team colors, lots just use it to go with whatever outfit they are wearing that day. It’s a great way to show school or team spirit!

Days spent on the field, crazy parties I missed, weekend
hang outs blown, hours of hard work, tons of sweat,
never ending plane rides, late night bus
trips,thousands of dollars spent, sneakin out on
tournaments, screaming coaches, bad refs, not getting
the boy of your dreams because you didnt have enough
time to spend with him, at times, wanting to give it all up,
being on the road for your birthday, having everyone in
the crowd watch you as you own on a breakaway,
leaving the night of christmas for some tournament,
missing school vacations and summer break to try out
for teams, moving to a different state just because the
teams better, tears, blood shed, broken bones, your
teams bullshit, trying to explain your game to your
friends at school who have no idea what your talking
about, losing friends because you have practice the day of
their birthday, BIG DREAMS. Would I change any of it? NO WAY!
WHY? Because theres no better feeling in the
world than when the game is over and your family comes
to greet you because you played outta your mind and you
got the W, not your parents and brother, but your 17
sisters who are there through more then your other family is,
doing a sweet step over, making a filthy save, or
winning the championship. All this after months of hard
work. That's my life.

Hey, do you even know what pre-wrap is? Chances are, if you're playing a sport and are over the age 14 you know exactly what I'm talking about! What else can you use that will keep your hair out of your face and actually stay on your head so that you can focus on your game! It's not exactly a little known secret, but if you haven't tried pre-wrap you must!
